About this grant
The Rural Legal Trust provides legal services to farmworkers, farm dwellers, and poor people in rural communities. Established in 2000 to work with rural farm communities in the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, North West, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng provinces in South Africa. Past support enabled the grantee to work with community advice offices and farmworker representatives on issues related to farmworker rights. This included providing training on topics such as mediation, fundraising, and case management. The grantee produced informational materials that can be used by farmworkers to defend themselves against unfair labor practices and other human rights violations. This grant will allow continuing support and training of paralegals and farmworker representatives. It will also support efforts to bring together networks of farm committees to share experiences, connect with other structures that support farmworker communities, and uphold their basic human rights.
