About this grant

The National Alliance for the Development of Community Advice Offices seeks to strengthen and sustain the community advice office sector in South Africa. Community advice offices provide free basic legal advice and other social services to the poor. Mott supported the grantee to reorganize the sector through facilitating national sector dialogues to agree on key priorities, galvanizing support for the regulation and development of minimum standards for the sector, and establishing the Association of Community Advice Offices of South Africa, a national membership-based initiative. This grant will support the grantee to build the capacity of community advice offices through accessing and linking them with relevant training opportunities and conduct research to help articulate the value of community advice offices and, in turn, unlock funding for advice offices from various stakeholders, particularly government . This grant has been made possible by a partnership with Atlantic Philanthropies in support of the community advice office sector.
