About this grant
This grant supports Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement, a learning community of funders established in 2006 doing work in the fields of civic engagement, service, and democratic renewal. Currently, the community includes 30 funders. Recent efforts have focused on: 1) service as a civic pathway out of poverty; 2) the relationship between new forms of information delivery and civic engagement; 3) strategies for civic engagement in Detroit; and 4) accountability and transparency in philanthropy. The community does its work through in-person gatherings, webinars, commissioning research papers, publications in philanthropic media, and sessions on topics important to the community at various philanthropic events. The community will continue its work in the above four areas over the next two years and is also exploring the area of transpartisan political reform.
