About this grant

The project goal is to enhance the quality, reliability, and accessibility of national level data on nonprofit organizations and volunteering around the world. Over the past several years, the Center for Civil Society Studies at Johns Hopkins University has been working with the United Nations Statistics Division on revisions and expansions to the United Nations Handbook on Nonprofit Institutions in the System of National Accounts — its guidance to countries on gathering statistics about nonprofit institutions. The grantee will complete the process of securing official approval for the handbook, disseminate the revised and updated version, and encourage implementation of the resulting broadened civil society sector statistical procedures into the statistical systems of countries around the world. This will lay the groundwork for a proposed global online, accessible civil society information system.
