About this grant
The Community Law and Rural Development Centre was established in 1989 to empower rural communities in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces of South Africa to actively participate in their social and economic development. Mott has supported the grantee for many years to provide legal advice and human rights education through a network of advice offices located throughout the two provinces. This grant will support the Community Law and Rural Development Centre to assist advice offices in KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape provinces to register as independent entities and develop the skills of staff and management committees on topics including financial management, fundraising, report writing, and computer skills. The aim is to lessen the dependence of the advice offices on external support by providing the tools and confidence necessary to enable them to operate smoothly. Paralegals from the advice offices will also receive ongoing training on relevant aspects of the law.
