About this grant

The South African Institute for Advancement, also known as Inyathelo, was established in 2002 to promote the development of a strong and sustainable civil society sector in South Africa. It provides training, information, and networking opportunities to nonprofits and universities to advance democracy. The nonprofit clinic project provides one-on-one mentorship, training, and advice to nonprofits with a specific focus on organizational sustainability. Over the past two years, the grantee provided training that builds an organization’s ability to engage with its internal and external environment to attract resources, a concept termed advancement. Additionally, the grantee conducted one-on-one sessions with nonprofits seeking additional support and made materials available from its resource center. This grant will allow the grantee to continue supporting the growth of civil society organizations by providing technical support and advice to organizations in need of assistance, conducting training on advancement, and hosting workshops on topical issues affecting civil society organizations. It will also expand its clinic services at its new premises to provide support to more organizations.
