About this grant

The program goal is to improve the legal literacy of Russian nongovernmental organizations. With this grant, Legal Team will administer a legal education and consultation service in 20 regions aimed at strengthening the capacity of Russian nongovernmental organizations to understand legal requirements, maintain proper documentation, and ensure regulatory compliance. It will also develop and disseminate a digest of frequently asked questions in order to provide easy access to information on common questions. This experience will allow the grantee to inform the Ministry of Justice of problematic issues in the application of regulations affecting the nonprofit sector. The Moscow-based Legal Team was established in 2012 with a focus on strengthening the legal capacity of the not-for-profit sector in Russia. It emerged from Lawyers for Civil Society, a Russian nonprofit established with support from the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law, and as such will draw on an existing regional network of lawyers specializing in noncommercial law.
