About this grant
The project goal is to strengthen civic engagement and community development in the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey. To this end, the activities within this phase of the project will focus on strengthening the organizational and programmatic capacity of the Yayla (Gola) Culture, Arts, and Ecology Association, a Turkish nonprofit association, to support civic leaders, young people, local community groups, and other stakeholders in this region. During 2014-2015, the grantee relocated its core staff and operations from Istanbul to the Eastern Black Sea region, networked with local civic leaders and nonprofits, and built its capacities for programming and management through site visits and technical assistance from other more experienced Turkish nonprofits. During the grant period, the grantee will build upon this past work and prepare for its longer-term engagement in the Eastern Black Sea region by deepening its connections with local communities and other stakeholders in the region; assessing the needs and priorities of local communities; designing and fundraising for projects and programs; and learning from other, prominent, Turkish nonprofits active in the field. Established in 2006, the grantee’s primary office is based in Arhavi, Turkey.
