About this grant

The program goal is to support access to justice in small communities in Ukraine through strengthening of local justice institutions. The Charity and Health Foundation will work with community legal centers to help expand practice and understanding of new community-based sheriffs. The grantee and the networks will also research, monitor, and broadly publicize local experiences of how new models of community-based justice are improving lives of citizens. During 2015–2017, the grantee improved an online portal to coordinate and publicize the activities of the network of community legal centers and improved the network’s capacity to respond to present needs, including legal aid to internally displaced persons as well as military personnel and their families. In total, the centers served, directly and through online resources, over 60,000 Ukrainians seeking legal assistance. Based in Kherson, the Charity and Health Foundation works to inspire citizens to take responsible action in order to promote the rule of law and democracy in Ukraine.
