About this grant
The program goal is to promote participatory approaches toward local urban development in Ukraine. The Centre for Society Research, also known as CEDOS, will focus on issues related to the definition, preservation, and use of public spaces and the role of local inhabitants in these processes. The grantee will work in four key areas: assessing and improving participatory local governance, strengthening connections among urban grassroots activists, fostering wider and deeper cooperation among different stakeholders, and developing online and offline information and training resources. In 2014–16, the grantee established an online course on urban civic engagement accessed by over 5,000 users. It created an open database and networking tool linking almost 1,000 urban grassroots initiatives from across Ukraine while producing weekly policy analyses of urban development issues. Registered in 2010, Centre for Society Research is a nongovernmental, nonpartisan organization located in Kyiv which seeks to promote democratic governance, civic participation, and knowledge-driven policymaking.
