About this grant

In recent years, China has helped establish a new family of development finance institutions that rival the current multilateral development finance system. The impact made by the investments of these new institutions on ecosystems and community development has become a global issue. The Global Economic Governance Institute at Boston University has become a major source for research analyzing these impacts. Over the past grant period, this project produced a groundbreaking report on the environmental and social impacts of Chinese investment in Latin America, leading to important opportunities to engage with government officials, other development finance institutions, and major media outlets. For the next grant period, the institute will continue to help shape investments made by these development finance institutions with a focus on energy and infrastructure, as well as environmental and social safeguards.
