About this grant
The Centre for Community Justice and Development was established in 2012 and works to further access to justice and to protect human rights through the law. It serves as an umbrella body to 15 advice offices in rural parts of the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa and provides them with financial and material resources. The advice offices provide legal advice and related services to poor people living in these areas. Past support enabled the center to: support the 15 advice offices to operate independently by registering as legal entities and thus enabling them to attract funding from local sources; train the 15 advice offices on fundraising, financial management, administration, planning, and reporting; and provide backup legal services to the advice offices and collate their cases through a central case management system. This grant will enable the grantee to continue with this work. This grant has been made possible by a partnership with Atlantic Philanthropies in support of the community advice office sector.
