About this grant
The Association of University Legal Aid Institutions Trust was established to support and promote institutions that provide legal services to poor and marginalized communities in South Africa. It coordinates the work of Access to Justice Clusters, which are cooperative bodies of university-based law clinics, paralegal advice offices, justice centers, private practitioners, and legal, nonprofit organizations. The grantee provides support to community-based advice offices through the clusters to ensure that they effectively provide legal and related services to the country’s poor. This grant will support the grantee to provide backup legal services to community-based advice offices and poor people through the Access to Justice Clusters. The grantee will also provide financial support to a select number of advice offices to enable them to operate effectively. This grant has been made possible by a partnership with Atlantic Philanthropies in support of the community advice office sector.
