About this grant
The Casual Workers Advice Office was established in 2011 to give free legal advice to workers who have been dismissed or face other labor violations by their employers. Unfair dismissals constitute over 70 percent of its casework, followed by nonregistration of workers for unemployment insurance, wage-related problems, and underpayment of wages or nonpayment of overtime. Past support allowed the grantee to advise and support workers whose labor rights have been violated; conduct research into factors that inhibit women from asserting and defending their labor rights; and offer free advice on labor rights. The advice office also trains community-based advice offices on labor laws and supports them with difficult labor cases. This grant will assist the Casual Workers Advice Office to continue to offer advice and support to workers whose rights have been violated and to train and support community-based advice offices on various aspects of labor laws.
