About this grant
The project goal is to introduce and develop the concept of community schools in Bulgaria as a tool for creating effective partnerships between communities and schools. To this end, the National Network for Children will create a project team of experienced community workers and educators from its member organizations. The grantee will cooperate with the International Centre of Excellence for Community Schools, a Mott grantee, to increase the team’s knowledge and understanding of the community school concept and practice around the Central and Eastern Europe and Russia region. In addition, the grantee will pilot the concept in 10 schools and strengthen the schools’ capacities to operate as community schools. Also, the network will document the experiences of the pilot phase. The grantee was established in 2003 with the mission to facilitate and strengthen the cooperation between nongovernmental organizations and all relevant stakeholders to ensure rights and welfare for children and families in Bulgaria. Currently, the grantee has 122 members working in different fields, including education, social welfare, and recreation.
