About this grant
The Lusa Community Chest is a community grantmaker established in 1990 to support community-based initiatives in the Free State province in South Africa. It makes small grants and trains community-based organizations in areas that help improve their performance. The Generation @ Junior Community Chest project promotes youth philanthropy by equipping young people in schools with skills and tools to respond to challenges they see in their communities. Young people learn to initiate and manage projects in order to improve the quality of life of those in need. Previous support enabled the grantee to introduce the project in more schools, support learners to identify the issues they want to address, and raise the funds they need to implement projects. This grant will support the grantee to continue to expand the program, document the experiences of learners that have participated in the program, and support the network of community chests of South Africa in rolling out the program.
