About this grant
The Lusa Community Chest is a community grantmaker established in 1990 to support community-based initiatives in the Free State province in South Africa. It makes small grants and trains community-based organizations in areas that help improve their work. The Generation @ Junior Community Chest project promotes youth philanthropy by equipping young people in schools with skills and tools that enable them to identify challenges in their communities and find solutions to those challenges. Young people learn to initiate and manage projects that improve the quality of life for people in their communities. Previous support enabled the grantee to encourage young people in schools to initiate projects that address a challenge in their community. Additionally, the groups organized an event to encourage communities to take ownership of their own development. This grant will support the grantee to continue to expand the program, document the experiences of learners that have participated in the program, and respond to the needs of young people that go through the program.
