About this grant
The program goal is to promote the development of community-based philanthropy in support of local development in the Northwest district of Russia. In this project, the Arkhangelsk Centre of Social Technologies "Garant" will work closely with two initial pilot communities to help community leaders and officials identify and apply local resources to local community development challenges. Grantee staff will conduct regular training activities and consultations with community leaders. They will explore with local activists the possibility of establishing institutionalized forms of community philanthropy, drawing on the existing Northwest alliance of community foundations as a mentoring resource. A school for leaders will target promising community actors from at least 15 municipalities to help broaden the reach of the program’s activities. Since its inception in 1998, the Arkhangelsk Centre of Social Technologies "Garant" has worked on developing civil society infrastructure and community philanthropy across Northwest Russia and beyond.
