About this grant

EcoWorks is a nonprofit organization that seeks to advance the sustainable use of energy and natural resources in southeast Michigan through education, job training, consulting, and policy reform efforts. Through its experience working with Michigan communities and other partners, the grantee identified an opportunity to connect energy efficiency programs to water quality improvements. With Mott support, the grantee will develop a package of financing tools that will allow municipalities and businesses to pay for water quality improvements through savings gained from energy efficiency improvements to their water treatment equipment. These financing mechanisms will be tested in up to ten water or wastewater treatment facilities in southeast Michigan. The grantee will develop a report to share lessons learned, identify areas for improvement, and provide sample policies for developing similar tools in other Great Lakes states.
