About this grant

According to the most recent data from the World Bank Group and the International Energy Agency, over 1 billion people in the world still do not have access to modern electricity. To address this challenge, the International Energy Agency has called for a global energy revolution, which will require a substantial shift of investment toward renewables and energy efficiency. Through this grant, Catholic Agency for Overseas Development will continue its research and refinement of a community-and practitioner-led energy development model to design distributed renewable energy systems for poor rural communities in Kenya and Indonesia.
