About this grant
Public and private investment in renewable energy generation capacity is increasing throughout Africa. In Tanzania, there is a broadly favorable policy environment with significant support from international donors. Due to this, financing of off-grid power through mini-grids that provide energy for small businesses or increased agricultural production has become an important new focus for funders. Under this grant, the International Institute for Environment and Development will provide case study-based research that will highlight the importance of financing for off-grid energy as well as the need for locally appropriate energy services designed around users’ needs and small business opportunities.
