About this grant

This grant will support program and transition planning activities at the Mt. Elliott Makerspace. Located in the basement of the Church of the Messiah, the Mt. Elliott Makerspace is a neighborhood workshop where people of all ages create (make) and learn together. Its goal is to grow a network of visionary makers with the skills and determination to create happier and more meaningful lives. During the project’s open hours, residents of the Mt. Elliott community can engage in designed learning experiences as well as open explorations in a range of areas: transportation, electricity and energy, communications, wearables, design and fabrication, food and wellness, and music and arts. Through self-directed learning and exchanges across these disciplines, the Mt. Elliott Makerspace helps community members discover their passions, exercise their creativity, develop knowledge and hands-on skills, and build relationships with fellow community members. Church of the Messiah is located on Detroit’s lower east side and is part of the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan.
