Documentary Film: The Good Ones

About this grant

The Institute for Educational Leadership’s mission is to improve education and the lives of children and their families. The grantee brings together diverse constituencies and empowers leaders with knowledge and applicable ideas. "The Good Ones" is a 30-minute documentary that shares the stories of what works in education in South Africa — schools that shift the paradigm and expectations of what happens in poor communities. Over the next six months, "The Good Ones" will film the stories of three South African schools. Each of these schools has its own story, but all have the same goal — to use the power of education to change people’s lives. These schools are succeeding even though they work in harsh and hostile conditions in some of the poorest parts of South Africa. "The Good Ones" will explain why these schools are succeeding and will illuminate factors that make them effective.
