About this grant
This grant increase provides additional general operating support for the Flint Farmers’ Market, a project of the Uptown Reinvestment Corporation and its support organization, the Foundation for the Uptown Reinvestment Corporation, which have been leaders in the effort to revitalize downtown Flint. As a source of year-round access to fresh produce and as the on-premises host to the Hurley Pediatric Clinic, the market acts as a community hub in helping Flint residents combat the negative effects of lead exposure through healthy nutrition and general wellness promotion. In addition, the market maintains an active calendar of community events, makes community meeting space available to local groups, and supports local food entrepreneurs through a commercial kitchen co-working facility. The Foundation for the Uptown Reinvestment Corporation receives and administers funds for charitable purposes and for the public welfare of Genesee County, Michigan, including support for the Uptown Reinvestment Corporation.
