About this grant
The Southern Africa Trust was established in 2005 to support lasting solutions to reduce poverty across the southern African region by generating knowledge and making grants to organizations that work on poverty-related issues. The Chair in African Philanthropy, a project of the Southern Africa Trust, was established to promote philanthropic knowledge and practice on the African continent. The chair promotes a narrative on African philanthropy that embraces traditional forms of giving. The Southern Africa Trust and the University of the Witwatersrand, the host of the chair, will be launching the chair at the Global Summit on Community Philanthropy taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa, December 1-2, 2016. This grant increase will help support the costs related to the launch.
