About this grant

The program goal is to increase civic engagement in Ukraine by providing comprehensive educational programs for grassroots initiatives based on the principle of active citizen participation. The Ukrainian Catholic University, a leading private educational institution inaugurated in western Ukraine in 2002, will foster a new culture in Ukrainian society by involving community members into discussions of relevant issues, decisionmaking, and taking action. Drawing on the advice and guidance of experts in Poland, Austria, and the United States, the grantee’s Institute for Leadership and Management will develop new courses and introduce methods and tools of participative decisionmaking, community mobilization, facilitation, and civic engagement into existing courses for its Masters in Nonprofit Management and other certificate programs and trainings for nonprofit organization leaders. The grantee will also incorporate newly developed academic courses in active citizen participation into the curriculum of its undergraduate program of social pedagogy.
