About this grant

Established in 2001, the Center for Civic & Cultural Initiatives “Tamarisk” works to build the capacity of community activists and civil society organizations in Ukraine. Drawing on its long experience of working with community activists and civil society organizations in Ukraine, the grantee will pursue work in three key areas to help consolidate the civic energy that emerged with Ukraine’s Maidan Revolution. The program goal is to strengthen and expand community-based approaches to development and integration in Ukraine. Its strategic priorities over the coming period will be threefold: to build the capacity of community activists and civil society organizations, to improve mechanisms for engagement of civil society organizations with local authorities in the context of extensive local government reforms, and to further model comprehensive local development programs bringing together varied community stakeholders. In 2016-2018, the grantee held three “School of Positive Change” sessions for over 90 civil society organizations. The grantee also played an active role in organizing a civic coalition to inform and adopt the regional strategy for development of civil society in the Dnipropetrovsk region with a confirmed four-year budget allocation.
