About this grant
The program goal is to increase effective citizen participation at local and national levels in Bosnia and Herzegovina. With Mott’s general purpose support, the Center for Civic Cooperation will build on its 20 years of experience to improve mechanisms for local level civic engagement in decisionmaking, increase awareness and protection of rights, build the capacity of local nonprofits, and strengthen its own organizational capacities. Established in 1996, the grantee has helped to rebuild communities in the aftermath of the war, assisted refugees and displaced people to return to their homes, provided educational and training programs to strengthen human rights and democratic practices in local communities, established an independent radio station covering southwest Bosnia, acted as a resource center for local nonprofits and citizen initiatives, and monitored and reported on the work of local government. The grantee is based in Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
