About this grant
The program goal is to enable donors to provide system leadership and practical support for civil society actors addressing the global trend of closing space for civil society. The Funders’ Initiative for Civil Society, a project of Global Dialogue, provides stakeholders with research, information, and support to coordinate and align their grants and strategies. To date, the initiative has produced 12 publications, held sessions at 14 philanthropy sector events, organized a standalone conference for 70 funders, and has hosted webinars and produced research for groups of funders focused on various issues such as humanitarian action, digital rights, and transparency. In the coming year, the initiative will conduct a review involving research and consultation to assess how philanthropy can more effectively provide resources to civil society in the face of current and future threats. The initiative is a collaborative program managed by the grantee and directly involves a range of private funders—the Ariadne network, the International Human Rights Funders Group, and the European Foundation Centre. Founded in the United Kingdom in 2006, Global Dialogue implements programs supporting human rights, social change, and funder collaboration around the world.
