About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen the community leadership capacities of community foundations in Michigan that wish to support a transition to clean energy in their locales. While this grant supports an exploration and learning phase for a potential multiyear initiative, it will also provide a significant benefit to all community foundations with which it engages. The range of activities during this phase will: a) move the state’s community foundations towards deeper knowledge of and more action on transitioning their communities to clean energy; b) determine if there is solid interest from enough community foundations to merit launching a larger initiative in 2018; and c) identify potential candidates and engage them in the design of the multiyear initiative. The project will be led by the Council of Michigan Foundations, a statewide association of more than 330 grantmakers that provides its members with educational services, networking opportunities, and advocacy with policymakers.
