About this grant

The project goal is to strengthen the role of civil society organizations in Turkey in promoting truth, justice, and accountability with respect to human rights violations in the country. The Truth, Justice and Memory Studies Association, a Turkish nonprofit organization, will systematically gather, analyze, and disseminate data on human rights violations in Turkey, particularly with respect to the long-standing Kurdish conflict in the southeast. Working with other nonprofits, the association will: 1) demonstrate the systematic and widespread character of human rights violations through research and analysis of documentation; 2) monitor and analyze the results of the prosecution of violations; and 3) raise awareness through reports, an online database and information platform, and an international workshop. The targeted research and analysis supported by this project will underpin the grantee’s broader and longer-term advocacy and educational activities. The grantee is based in Istanbul and was established in 2011.
