About this grant
The project goal is to strengthen civic engagement and democratic values in small towns in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia through theater and related educational activities. The East West Centre Sarajevo, a Bosnian and Herzogovinian nonprofit, educational, and cultural organization, will produce and perform four original plays that address important social issues and create space for critical thinking and dialogue at the community level in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. Together, there will be 63 performances and 56 workshops for audience members, local artists, and actors. The performances will reach more than 22,000 people directly, with many more impacted and engaged through social media. The plays will address issues such as poverty, minority rights, inclusion, diversity, reconciliation, gender equality, and freedom of expression in ways that engage a wide and diverse local audience. The East West Centre Sarajevo was established in November 2005 and has produced many widely acclaimed theater pieces that have toured Bosnia and Herzegovina and internationally.
