About this grant

The Getulio Vargas Foundation is a Brazilian Think Tank and higher Education Institution dedicated to promoting Brazil’s economic and social development. Founded in 1944, the grantee has eight schools and more than 50 applied research centers. The grantee’s Center for Sustainability Studies, founded in 2003, helps companies and financiers understand, measure and assess risks and opportunities relating to environment, social responsibility, and corporate governance. This project will build upon the center’s methodology and monitoring of social and environmental impacts and compliance of the large-scale Belo Monte hydroelectric power project. Its results will help inform and mitigate impacts of planned hydroelectric investments in the greater Amazon.
