About this grant
Over one billion people around the world have no access to electricity, which has led to limited social and economic development. Mini-grid or other distributed renewable energy solutions can provide energy more quickly to poor rural areas through social enterprises and other private-sector opportunities. This is particularly true in Africa. However, a key barrier is financing for these small, African-led enterprises. This project will support SunFunder, a key financier of such small enterprises to continue and expand its lending to these enterprises and prove a business model for banks and other financial institutions.
