About this grant
The Nonprofit Employment Data Project is a collaboration between the Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Civil Society Studies and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics that charts nonprofit employment, wages, and finances over time and in relation to other industries. At the beginning of 2017, the center launched a user-friendly, interactive database called Nonprofit Works, which provided nonprofit employment data from 1999 through 2012. During the previous grant period, the grantee has worked with the bureau to obtain the input of 2015 and 2016 data into Nonprofit Works. The grantee has extensively disseminated the results, most recently issuing “The 2019 Nonprofit Employment Report.” The grantee has also marketed the database, creating 261 user accounts and 23 paid memberships. Over the upcoming grant period, the grantee will add 2017 employment data released by the bureau and further enhance, update, and market the Nonprofit Works site. Johns Hopkins University is one of America’s premier research universities. The Center for Civil Society Studies seeks to improve the understanding and effective functioning of nonprofit, philanthropic, and civil society organizations.
