About this grant

The Getulio Vargas Foundation’s Center for Sustainability Studies is a higher education institution dedicated to promoting sustainable development in Brazil. Over the past grant period, the center worked with stakeholders and partners to develop a permanent institutional capacity to monitor the social and environmental impacts of the large-scale Belo Monte hydroelectric power project. Over the next project period, the Belo Monte monitoring activities will continue. Efforts will also be made to transfer the lessons learned to similar projects planned for the Tapajos River basin in order to improve the related social and environmental governance practices.
