About this grant
The project goal is to foster partnerships between community foundations in Latin America and the Caribbean and their counterparts in the United States and Canada, using interested stakeholders, such as immigrant groups, as channels of interconnectivity. Project activities will include: 1) exchanges of staff, boards, and donors of participating community foundations; 2) working group meetings and outreach to new stakeholders; 3) applied research, such as community-specific mapping exercises, mapping of corporate interests in the hemisphere and investigation of government programs that support diaspora/sending community partnerships; 4) tool development and sharing of best practices of supporting community philanthropy in a transnational context; and 5) a Leadership Fellows Program. The project is managed by the Inter-American Foundation, an independent United States government agency created by Congress in 1969 to channel development assistance directly to the organized poor in Latin America and the Caribbean. A grant increase will allow for the engagement of a professional communications firm to establish clear messaging, develop information products, and develop a strategic communications plan for the initiative.
