About this grant

The Council on Foundations is a national membership organization of more than 700 private foundations, community foundations, and corporate funders. Its mission is to provide the opportunity, leadership, and tools needed by philanthropic organizations to expand, enhance, and sustain their ability to advance the common good. Its near-term organizational goals are to: 1) position the council as a strategic leader that advances effective and dynamic philanthropy; 2) build and cultivate a collaborative and diverse philanthropic network; 3) continue to grow an effective and nimble organizational structure, grounded in sound financial systems and processes; and 4) foster a creative, collaborative, and entrepreneurial internal culture that encourages individual investment, which lends to the collective success of the grantee. This grant increase will provide partial support to the grantee to conduct a planning exercise to examine various scenarios that could threaten civil society in the United States as a result of the current political and policy environment, and to provide recommendations on how and when the grantee could or should respond to such scenarios on behalf of the philanthropic sector.
