About this grant
The Council of Michigan Foundations is a statewide association of over 300 grantmakers that provides its members with educational programs, technical assistance, networking opportunities, advocacy with policymakers and regulators, and collaborative work with leading national and regional philanthropic associations. Highlights from 2018 include 37 unique legislative visits, 90 learning programs, 276 policy-focused communications, 23 mentoring program graduates, and a 94 percent membership renewal rate. A listening tour by the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer yielded key themes for future work by the grantee: 1) advancing public policy; 2) cultivating the next generation of philanthropic leaders; 3) creating neutral space to have civic dialogue around hard conversations; and 4) supporting efforts that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. These themes will complement the grantee’s existing priorities of expanding membership, offering a highly valued suite of services, continuing partnerships with peer infrastructure organizations, and advancing thought leadership to the field of philanthropy.
