About this grant

The program goal is to support access to justice in small communities in Ukraine through strengthening of local justice institutions. The Charity and Health Foundation will work with newly amalgamated communities to help expand practice and understanding of community-based sheriffs. The grantee will also research, monitor, and broadly publicize local experiences of how new models of community-based justice are improving lives of citizens and how they can positively inform wider law enforcement reforms. During 2017-2019, the grantee improved its online resources detailing the experience of community policing in rural areas based on the sheriff model. It produced six informational/instructional videos as well as a guide to best practices in community policing. This guide was subsequently adopted for official use in training future community police officers. Based in Kherson, the Charity and Health Foundation works to inspire citizens to take responsible action in order to promote the rule of law and democracy in Ukraine.
