About this grant
The program goal is to support access to justice in small communities in Ukraine through strengthening of local justice institutions. The Charity and Health Foundation will work with newly amalgamated communities in territories of southeast Ukraine to help expand practice and understanding of community-based policing, with a particular focus on improving juvenile justice practices. The grantee will also research, monitor and broadly publicize local experiences of how new models of community-based justice are improving lives of citizens and how they can positively inform wider law enforcement reforms. During 2019-2021, the grantee produced over 300 online and offline publications detailing community justice practices and highlighting deficiencies in juvenile justice provisions in rural communities. The grantee also produced further material on community policing for inclusion in the curriculum of Ukraine’s leading institution for police training. Based in Kherson, the Charity and Health Foundation works to inspire citizens to take responsible action in order to promote the rule of law and democracy in Ukraine.
