About this grant
The project goal is to address systemic injustices facing poor and marginalized people in South Africa. To this end, the Black Sash Trust ensures that all people in South Africa have access to their socioeconomic rights, as enshrined in the South African Constitution. Past support allowed the grantee to work with a network of community advice offices to increase peoples’ access to social security and to address systemic injustices through various initiatives. This grant will assist the grantee to continue this work with the advice offices. The grantee will work towards ensuring that the right to social security and social assistance is protected, realized and advanced. The grantee was founded in 1955 by a group of women who were fighting for the recognition of human rights for all in South Africa. The Black Sash Trust’s aim is to contribute to the creation of a society that has effective laws and comprehensive social protection for the most vulnerable.
