About this grant

Environmental Advocates of New York has worked for more than 50 years to protect New York’s natural resources and the health of its residents from harmful pollution. Environmental Advocates of New York is one of the most respected conservation organizations in New York. Forty percent of New York state lies in the Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, or St. Lawrence River watershed. New York’s waters of the Great Lakes region suffer from many of the same problems faced in other parts of the region, including annual harmful algal outbreaks, billions of gallons of sewage overflows, and due to the legacy of an industrialized past, contamination from industrial chemicals. The Clean Water Campaign will focus on three priorities: 1) securing funds to repair crumbling water infrastructure across local communities; 2) securing funds to replace lead service lines that could expose people to unsafe levels of lead; and 3) identifying and preventing unregulated chemicals from contaminating water.
