About this grant

The River Alliance of Wisconsin has empowered people to protect and restore water for 27 years. The grantee supports a network of local organizations and individuals who advocate to defend Wisconsin’s waters from pollution and overuse. Despite the grantee’s successes, Wisconsin faces many water challenges. More than half a million of the state’s residents cannot safely drink their water because of agricultural runoff, lead pipes and chemical pollution. Lakes and streams are shrinking because of over pumping and others are choked with algal blooms. With support from the Mott Foundation, the grantee will expand its organizational capacity to provide statewide leadership on water policy priorities, market-based water stewardship approaches, aquatic invasive species management, restoring free-flowing rivers and engagement with a diverse array of advocates. Central to the River Alliance of Wisconsin’s plans will be leading efforts to adopt and implement a statewide Wisconsin Water Agenda.
