About this grant

Urgewald is a German based organization that works to establish strong, binding environmental and social standards for international development finance institutions and to gain public support for responsible and accountable public international financial institutions. To achieve these goals, the grantee undertakes research, education and advocacy efforts with a global network of local communities, nongovernmental organizations and other partners. The grantee has played a key role in ensuring that the World Bank Group, Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’s environmental and social framework continue to maintain the highest standards for development finance lending. Over the next grant period, the grantee will monitor implementation and review of these banks’ environmental and social policies. In addition, Urgewald will work to ensure that their lending is aligned to agreed climate policies and supports of global goals on energy access.
