About this grant

The Centro de Estudos Avançados de Promoção Social e Ambiental is a nonprofit organization in the Amazon founded in 1985 to promote sustainable community development and Amazon forest conservation by improving public policies and quality of life of children, youth, indigenous peoples and minorities. Over the previous grant period, the grantee’s Health and Happiness Project installed off-grid solar systems in five communities, organized technical trainings and contributed to a policy symposium and trade fair for renewable energy. Over this grant period, the project will work with isolated communities in the Brazilian Amazon region of the Tapajos River basin to design and implement sustainable community-managed renewable energy systems and monitor performance and organize trainings at its forest center. The grantee also will provide technical information to inform and expand a new public renewable electrification program.
