About this grant

The project goal is to promote community philanthropy in Brazil. Over the past year, staff of the Institute for the Development of Social Investment developed a firm understanding of the community foundation concept, exposed more Brazilian philanthropists to the concept and developed a ten-year vision and a three-year operational plan to support the development of community foundations in Brazil. The grantee’s goals over the next two years are to: 1) help establish at least three new community foundations that are well-structured and operating in Brazil, as well as support at least five other groups in a structuring process; 2) create a fund with a matching strategy that will catalyze the engagement of local philanthropists; and 3) include community foundations in the Brazilian philanthropy ecosystem as a viable and impactful option for social investment. Founded in 1999, the Institute for the Development of Social Investment is a philanthropy service organization that promotes private social investment and strategic philanthropy, primarily in Brazil but also throughout Latin America, and is an affiliate of the Charities Aid Foundation Global Alliance.
