About this grant
The Great Lakes Environmental Law Center is the only nonprofit environmental law organization headquartered in Michigan that provides support to community members facing challenges to provide clean, safe, affordable, and healthy water resources to people in Michigan. With previous support from the Mott Foundation, the grantee has provided support to help citizens understand the strengths and weaknesses of legal approaches to address water challenges, and has then designed customized approaches to addressing those issues through litigation, policy change, or a combination of these and other tools. The grantee has helped groups address issues including drinking water quality and water affordability, as well as wetland, stream, and groundwater protection. With this grant renewal, the Great Lakes Environmental Law Center will continue its services to address these ongoing issues and will add the growing concern of contamination from PFAS chemicals to its work.
