About this grant
Since 1947, Salesian Missions has brought opportunity to millions of poor youth across 130 countries by providing thorough vocational education and technical training. This Salesian Missions network also includes the Don Bosco Vocational Training Centers, which have been providing technical training across Tanzania since 1980. Over the past four years, the Salesian Missions, together with the Don Bosco training centers in Tanzania, have provided 481 disadvantaged youth (23% women) with solar photovoltaic installation technical skills. Of these graduates,182 are now either self-employed or employed by solar companies in Tanzania. As part of this grant renewal, the Salesian Missions and the Don Bosco training centers in Tanzania will train an additional 129 underserved youth in solar photovoltaic installation while ensuring that 70% of those trained are either self-employed or employed by others in Tanzania’s solar sector. The organization will also actively promote the successful recruitment and retention of disadvantaged young women in the program.
