About this grant
The Community Organisation Resource Centre was established in 2002 to support the development of the urban slums in South Africa. The grantee works with movements of people living in slums to enable homeless and landless communities to learn from one another and work together to engage government on the improvement of their living conditions. Past support enabled the grantee to work with community groups to collect data, build strong savings schemes and lead community-planning processes to leverage support and funding from local, provincial and national government. This grant will enable the grantee to continue supporting the Federation of the Urban Poor and the Informal Settlement Network, improve living conditions for the urban poor and connect them to movements of slum dwellers globally. The Community Organisation Resource Centre will continue to support learning exchanges and work with young people to bridge the inter-generational gap.
